history;; Being born in the time of the 100 year war but not when it was nearing its climax, Ganbu Hanro - the second born son to Shauji Hanro II had quite the easy life until the Avatar had returned. His family lived in the Earth Kingdom city of Omashu under the rule of the ever worshipped king Bumi, and the three sons of the fifth Hanro generation were all born Earthbenders - albeit with different levels: Shauji III was born with poor skill, Ganbu was little above average and Chulon a prodigy. It was Qua Mei that encouraged the three children to become better, and as time passed they found themselves improving dramatically under her guidance. Shauji and Shauji II, as non-benders, worked as landworkers, taking their sons with them occasionally. In short time, Shauji III - only 15 - enlisted to Omashu's army of Earthbenders, 9 year old Ganbu and 6 year old Chulon left without their older brother. Ganbu then began his special training to be a fit role model for his younger brother.
Ganbu became an excellent Earthbender very much praiseworthy, even by the soldiers. He went with his father and grandfather to work in the fields much more often out of free will, where his body strengthened. Chulon, which was against fighting altogether, saw in his brother a twisted hero, perhaps a role model in one way but a hot-headed fool that would try solve his problems using his power, and not his mind, something the lad took for serious note and once again, began reshaping himself and thus beginning to think before he acts, much more effectively using his Earthbending rather just throw rocks around everywhere. By the time he turned 11, Ganbu decided to take a test to see how good of a bender he really is, and joined Earthbending academies far from Omashu in order to better himself. In a very short time he graduated as one of the better students to learn there, but his social life were poor: coming from a faraway city, Ganbu was put to mockery by other kids of, above and below his age, being told his family abandoned him and being called 'hobo' a lot. He barely managed to make any friends, and moved from one academy to the other, only to find his social abilities rather limited. He had a few friends back in Omashu, but only as childhood mates; his main purpose was to impress his younger brother, after all.
One day Ganbu overheard the other kids talk about a certain event called 'Earth Rumble 3'. It looked like an impressive show, as they spoke very highly of the contestants, and in attempt to make himself some friends Ganbu ended up pursuing Xin Fu, the host, and join in as a starter fighter in the arena under the name 'The Slider' because of his unique, unusual way of fighting - waiting for a flaw to use against the opponent while constantly dodging instead of facing them head on. Much to Ganbu's expectation, his classmates cane to see - albeit not him directly, but what he did not foresee was Shauji II, Shauji III and Chulon being in the crowd. His first fight versus The Hippo could have taken a much larger toll on him would his younger brother suddenly shouted for him to stand up mid-fight, encouraging the boy. Somehow, Ganbu managed to knock his first opponent out of the ring, much to everybody's surprise. Everybody but young Chulon. His second fight versus Fire Nation Man ended in a clear victory for him, but during the third fight he lost to The Gopher.
Ganbu resigned his position as a professional Earthbending fighter and returned to school after that day. He won an incredible deal of respect from his previously scorning classmates, becoming a 'star' of the sort and persuaded to join during the fourth tournament as well. With that, Ganbu's studies continued, while training intensively at the same time. A month before the tournament, Ganbu was recruited as a professional bender once again, this time sought out by Xin Fu himself. During his month of performing for others' entertainment, the boy met with a fighter named The Blind Bandit, a mysterious girl even younger than he, a real pipsqueak, and to top it off she was blind. Ganbu underestimated her skill greatly, but was warned by The Gopher that she excels at Earthbending more than any other fighter, a challenge he wanted to overcome.
By some miracle, Ganbu dominated the ring almost entirely, even winning against The Boulder. The Slider was to face the reigning champion, The Blind Bandit, for the final round. But before he even managed to move, he was already out of the ring. When he asked why the fighters let him win at the tournament's end, they replied that they wanted him to experience The Blind Bandit's power for underestimating her earlier. In search for the girl, Ganbu met with a defeated brand of Earth Kingdom soldiers, amongst which was his older brother, Shauji III. After seeing into what a sorry state his elder had got, Ganbu set in the Earth Kingdom City Gaoling, where he raised a resistance force of young Earthbenders, being a true pain to the Fire Nation soldiers that tried not once to claim the city. During the coming of Earth Rumble 5, Ganbu participated once more, but lost to The Boulder before reaching the championship. His brand of Earthbenders came to see him, but after his loss, abandoned their sorry-looking leader.
Ganbu wandered until he reached Omashu, where a resistance force was raised once more, this time including even the extremely skilled Chulon. More than once, they aided the soldiers of the city and ambushed the Fire Nation, greatly foiling their attacks and diminishing their numbers. But as Ganbu became 14, his little platoon was finally defeated, all sent to prison. He couldn't bear with the fact he sent his own brother to such a place, and rampaged many times, becoming an extreme eyesore to the soldiers. Not once was he abused. Carefully planning an escape plan for his dear brother alone, before initiating it Ganbu was sent to a much tighter prison - the most secure in the Fire Nation: the Boiling Rock.
With very little choice, Ganbu lingered in the Boiling Rock and became as obedient as a dog, in time summoned to speak with the warden not once. He was told Chulon escaped from prison and that he is carefully watched, as a man of his caliber of self-restraint is dangerous; not once had he showed any form of rage, even when beaten to a pulp by either fellow prisoners or jailers. The warden, sure that Ganbu schemed something, tortured him through the jailers - framing him and sendinghim to the freezing cells. It was there that Ganbu became bolemic, often sick but never shown mercy.
By miracle, the war ended and through Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko's orders, the unrightfully jailed prisoners of the Boiling Rock were freed, Ganbu amongst them. Slowly he began returning to a normal routine in life, and a year later was the first person to join Toph's Metalbending Academy, as a result becoming the first to join Republic City's Police Force under Toph's commanding as well. For a long time he stayed by his chief's side as a loyal law enforcer, and even got to meet the person behind the armor, Toph Beifong as a girl rather an incredible leader. Due to 'some incident', Ganbu ended up quitting the force, but tried to keep in contact with his chief, as just a friend. He joined as a 19-year-old man to the tournament Earth Rumble 11, coming out as the champion. He cooperated with the new host for three years, ending his carrier in the end of Earth Rumble 13.
After retiring, Ganbu moved to Republic City permanently as a citizen, a landworker and supporter of the city. He had stayed there ever since, and despite being invited to the police force more than once, he declined for the same reason he left before. Never though, did he forget to practice his Earthbending abilities and Metalbending specialty.
